• The handrail should contain a turn downwards or inwards at the beginning and end, so that clothes cannot get snagged as people walk by. The turn down also alerts users that the handrail has come to an end.
• The handrail should be a colour which enables it to be easily visible and to stand out from its surroundings. This measure is aimed at helping people with visual impairments.
